J. Warner Wallace and Susie Wallace’s ‘Cold-Case Christianity for Kids’ Blog Tour and Giveaway

{MORE ABOUT COLD-CASE CHRISTIANITY FOR KIDS}

Cold-Case Christianity for Kids(David C. Cook, October 2016)
Between the ages of 8 and 12, kids often start to wonder if Christianity is true.
In Cold-Case Christianity for Kids, detective J. Warner Wallace draws readers into the thrill of high-stakes investigation by showing them how to think rather than telling them what to think. In this children’s companion to the bestselling Cold-Case Christianity, detective Wallace gets kids excited about testing witnesses, examining the evidence, and investigating the case for Christianity. Includes author illustrations and links to a website where kids can download activities, fill in case notes, and earn a certificate of merit.

{MORE ABOUT J. WARNER AND SUSIE WALLACE}

J. Warner and Susie Wallace have been training young people in the church setting for over a decade. J. Warner is a cold-case homicide detective who has been featured on Dateline, FOX News, Court TV and other crime-related television shows. PRESTON F (AGE 10) REVIEW:  I give the book five (5) stars.    I really liked the book and if kids like detective stuff then they would love this book!

MY REVIEW OF THIS READ:  This is a great tool for parents, Sunday School Teachers and Children Pastors alike.   If you want to get your kids involved in witnessing, studying scripture and reading the Bible, then this book is for you!   This starts out with a group of students who join a Junior Detective School.  It is not just telling your kids what the Bible says, but it gets them involved in actually discovering for themselves.   It also includes the kids getting involved and solving an actual mystery of a skateboard.

This would make a great Wednesday night or Sunday night study for your Middle Schoolers.  It will get them involved in knowing why we believe instead of just that is what we have been taught.  Most kids want to know why and not just be told that is what they believe.

Mr. Warner really digs into the truth and there are excellent videos and activity sheets included on the website for no extra charge.   There are different side bar notes included in the book that really makes you think.   So, it is not being told what to think, but really what does the Bible say about the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.   I just like how Mr. Warner presents his case and comes to the
truth.

At the crucial age between 8 and 12, many kids begin to wonder if Christianity and the Bible are true. Help your kids become truth-seeking detectives with the help of J. Warner and Susie Wallace's Cold-Case Christianity for Kids. Detective Wallace gets kids excited about testing witnesses, examining the evidence, and investigating the case for Christianity. The book includes author illustrations and links to a website where kids can download activities, fill in case notes, and earn a certificate of merit.

Encourage your kids to investigate the case for Christianity by entering to win a faith examination kit and a copy of J. Warner and Susie's new book.

AN AMISH MARKET: FOUR NOVELLAS BOOK

An Amish Market: Four Novellas Book Description

Love Birds by Amy Clipston While Ellie Lapp (from The Forgotten Recipe) and her mother are still mourning the loss of her brother, Seth, Ellie starts working at one of the gift shops in town. Seth’s friend Lloyd is talented at carving wooden birds, but his father disapproves and expects him to take over the family farm someday. Ellie sees the beauty in Lloyd’s creations and insists Lloyd sell the birds in the gift shop where she works. As Ellie and Lloyd spend more time together, they begin to develop feelings for one another, but she accidentally betrays his trust. Will she lose any hope of a future with him?
A Bid for Love by Kathleen Fuller Every week, Hannah Lynne brings her home-churned butter to the local market. And every week Ezra stops by to purchase some. Hannah Lynne knows not to read too much into it—Ezra is a confirmed bachelor and barely even glances her way, despite any hope to the contrary. But when Ezra bids an exorbitant amount to win the quilt she had her heart set on, Hannah Lynne can’t stop her heart from taking over her mind. Could Ezra finally be in the market for love?
Sweeter Than Honey by Kelly Irvin Shattering a jar of pickled beets wasn’t the impression Isabella hoped to make on her first trip to the local Combination Store of Bee County, Texas. But as embarrassed as she was by the accident, she didn’t think it warranted the frosty reaction from the handsome manager of the store, Will Glick. As she soon learns, though, Will’s heart has been broken one too many times. And now, for some reason, Isabella finds herself determined to be the one to repair that broken heart and renew his faith in love.
Love in Store by Vannetta Chapman Stella Schrock works at the Old Mill in Nappanee, Indiana, with new employee David Stoltzfus, a recent widower. When strange happenings begin occurring around town, it appears as if someone wants to close the mill. Stella and David have to work together to solve the mystery of what is happening at the Old Amish Mill, and in the process they might just find that God has more in store for their future than they would ever have dreamed possible.

MY THOUGHTS AND VIEWS OF THIS READ:   I have always enjoyed Amish genre of books.   This one is no exception.   I really enjoy the Novellas and how it introduced me to "new" and "new to me" authors.  It has left me wanting to explore more of the authors writings.  I really enjoyed how each story was not only a love story (boy meets girl, date, fall in love and marry), but a story interwoven into the love stories.   I especially enjoyed the last story that included a mystery.   Yes, there were some tears shed over the stories and just relationships in general and how we can do mean things and have regrets over them.   But it is a reminder, God is there to pick us up, forgive us and put us on a new path.  So, join the authors as they take you deep into the heart of Amish Country for stories of faith, forgiveness, love and mysteries are solved.

#HOPE HEALS

When all seems lost, where can hope be found?
Katherine and Jay married right after college and sought adventure far from home in Los Angeles, CA. As they pursued their dreams, they planted their lives in the city and in their church community. Their son, James, came along unexpectedly in the fall of 2007, and just 6 months later, everything changed in a moment for this young family.
On April 21, 2008, as James slept in the other room, Katherine collapsed, suffering a massive brain stem stroke without warning. Miraculously, Jay came home in time and called for help. Katherine was immediately rushed into micro-brain surgery, though her chance of survival was slim. As the sun rose the next morning, the surgeon proclaimed that Katherine had survived the removal of part of her brain, though her future recovery was completely uncertain. Yet in that moment, there was a spark of hope. Through 40 days on life support in the ICU and nearly 2 years in full-time brain rehab, that spark of hope was fanned into flame.
Defying every prognosis, with grit and grace, Katherine and Jay, side by side, struggled to regain a life for Katherine as she re-learned to talk and eat and walk. Returning home with a severely disabled body but a completely renewed purpose, they committed to celebrate this gift of a second chance by embracing life fully, even though that life looked very different than they could have ever imagined. In the midst of continuing hardships and struggles, both in body and mind, Katherine and Jay found what we all long to find...hope, hope that heals the most broken place, our souls.
An excruciating yet beautiful road to recovery has led the Wolf family to their new normal, in which almost every moment of life is marked with the scars of that fateful April day in 2008. Now, eight years later, Katherine and Jay are stewarding their story of suffering, restoration, and Christ-centered hope in this broken world through their ministry Hope Heals.

MY REVIEW OF THIS READ:   I first heard of Katherine's stroke the day after it happened.  I live in the area where Jay's father preaches and through FB friends that attend First Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL I heard about Katherine and joined everyone in praying for her.   I did follow her mom's blog about her journey and later on I followed Jay and Katherine's blog as they journeyed through surgeries and physical therapy to later founding their ministry Hope Heals.

This is a riveting story when all seems hopeless there is always a ray of hope that we hold fast to in our walk with Jesus.   What do you do when you are young, just married and have a baby that is just six months old?   You make plans for what you are going to do and want to do.   You never expect that on April 21, 2008 that your life as you know it will forever be changed.

This is the story of their journey together as Katherine fought against the odds to survive and then to regain just the simple of tasks that we all take for granted.   Come join Jay and Katherine as they take you on this journey and yes Hope Heals even when we are left with scars.

I am giving this read 5 stars!

Rachel McMillan’s Murder Mystery Prize Pack and Facebook Party

{MORE ABOUT THE BACHELOR GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER}

The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder (Harvest House, April 2016)
In 1910 Toronto, while other bachelor girls perfect their domestic skills and find husbands, two friends perfect their sleuthing skills and find a murderer.
Inspired by their fascination with all things Sherlock Holmes, best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem launch a consulting detective business. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly, where the high hopes of those dreaming to make a new life in Canada are met with prejudice and squalor.
While searching for answers, donning disguises, and sneaking around where no proper ladies would ever go, they pair with Jasper Forth, a police constable, and Ray DeLuca, a reporter in whom Jem takes a more than professional interest. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever–if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

{MORE ABOUT RACHEL MCMILLAN}

Rachel McMillan is a keen history enthusiast and a lifelong bibliophile. When not writing or reading, she can most often be found drinking tea and watching British miniseries. Rachel lives in bustling Toronto, where she works in educational publishing and pursues her passion for art, literature, music, and theater.

MY REVIEW OF THIS READ:  This is a light and unpredictable read.  It is the female version of Sherlock and Watson, but it lacks the riveting suspense that I am used to in a mystery novel.   It can get bogged down in descriptions and other stuff.   It somewhat jumps around too much.   It is easy to pick up and put down in between reads.

I have a mixed feelings on this book.   I enjoyed the Historical background included in this novel.   It does give you what women went through during the 1900's and also what the immigrants went through in Canada and not just in America.

It was an okay read for me.   If you like Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie novels you might like this one.

Meet best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem, who launch their own Sherlock Holmes-esque consulting detective business in 1910 Toronto in Rachel McMillan’s The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever–if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

‘Bronner’ by Sherri Burgess and a Kindle Fire HD 6 Giveaway

Bronner: A Journey to Understand (New Hope Publishers, January 2016)
God teaches and refines us through pain and suffering. Author Sherri Burgess, wife of Rick Burgess of The Rick and Bubba Show, knows this to be true. After the earthly death of her youngest son, Bronner, Burgess asked, “Why?” And God answered.
Journey with her through this powerful testimony of healing to understand the purpose behind the pain. An empowering resource for book-club discussion or small-group Bible study, this is much more than simply a retelling of an inspiring story. It is a call to action beckoning us to know our Holy God like never before.

Sherri Burgess’ life is a beckoning for you to know a Holy God like you have never known Him before. The wife of Rick Burgess of The Rick and Bubba Show, a nationally syndicated talk radio show, Sherri is someone who now passionately pursues holiness and inspires others to do the same. A seasoned Bible teacher, writer and blogger, she has in recent years answered God’s call as a women’s ministry speaker. This mother of five stays active with her family in Birmingham, Alabama.

MY VIEW OF THIS READ:   I was super excited when this book came up for review.   I was even more excited to be chosen for this read.   I am from Alabama (just an hour and half from Birmingham) and a fan of The Rick and Bubba Show too.

There are incidents that happen in life that are forever ingrained in it and this is one of those tragic events.   It is the life event that you know where you were, what you were doing and even what the weather was like when the word came to the Christian community about Rick and Sherri's son Bronner "Cornbread" had passed away from a tragic drowning in the family swimming pool.  The call to pray was swift and people were praying for the entire family all over the country.

I was a little apprehensive about reading this book, but it was less on the loss and more on how great God is and how everyone does grieve differently and sometimes the process takes longer than most.   I love how Sherri incorporated her testimony of coming to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.   It is a book of sorrow, loss and most importantly HOPE that not only will you see Bronner again, but you will be with him again forever.

Thank you Sherri for sharing your story with us readers and also most importantly your faith and what gives you hope.

God Bless,

Tia Johnson
