The Heiress of Winterwood by Sarah E. Ladd - Thomas Nelson Publishers
  • ISBN 978-1-4016-8835-6
(I received this book as a free giveaway directly from the publisher)

WOW!!!  I have started my New Years resolution off to a great start.   This is a new Christian Author and a genre that I tend to shy away from after my high school days.  What an exciting book this has been for me it takes me back to my love of reading and makes me want to revisit the classics again.  I received this paperback book free last year from the publisher in a Facebook raffle!   Yes, I have actually picked up a "real" book instead of an ebook this year and another new start for me too.  I will not be biased in my reviews here and no spoilers either!

This book takes place in Darbury England in 1814.   It took me in from the very first paragraph and did not let me down.   It took me back to the days of reading the classics and what made me love reading so much.   I have realized how much I missed reading Jane Eyre and other stories in this era.

It was a very thought provoking book with twists, turns and mysteries.  It also made me look at the fact that every decision we make will have an effect on others.   We can't just think selfishly or hastily when we make a decision.   It also brings out how easy it is to hide your true self until things start to come to light.  Eventually, the person that they truly are will come out.  It is difficult to go back to the era of arranged marriages and where power, money and greed were prevalent in that era.   Women had no other choices and was basically at the mercy of an arranged marriage.  It takes you back when people traveled by horses, carriages and by way of the sea.   Also, when England and the US were engaged in war.

Once I picked it up it was hard to put this book down and now on to book two The Headmistress of Rosemere by Sarah E. Ladd and it was another free book from the author for a review.

God bless, Tia

This is the time that Resolutions are being made or already made and broken (ha ha ha).  I have decided this is going to be the year that I mix up my reading.  I have found a lot of Christian authors on Facebook and their blogs that are willing to advance a copy of a new novel for reviews.   I have won several and been sent several copies from authors and have made a resolution to read them this year.

Here is where the mixing it up comes in since getting an ereader I have read lots of books.  I have paperback books that I have not read yet too, because I enjoy my ereader so much.   I have resolved this year that I will read these paperback books along with my ebooks too.

Please check me out on Goodreads for novels and reviews that I have read that are really great reads.

I am currently reading The Heiress of Winterwood by Sarah Ladd.   I received this book free from Thomas Nelson publishing as a giveaway.   I have also waiting to be read The Headmistress of Rosemere by Sarah Ladd it is book two in Whispers of The Moor Series.   I am loving this new to me era with castles, mysteries and love stories.  I will be reviewing both of these novels on Goodreads and my blog too.

If you have any book suggestions, please post them in the comments section of this blog,

Coffee News:  YES!  It is official Prattville has a stand alone Starbucks Coffee Shop and now I can use my rewards and don't have to drive all the way to Montgomery to use them.   I will still visit the other Coffee Shops in my area too and continue to support the small businesses in my area.

Have a great and blessed week!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!!!  Mine was great and now I am ready to settle down and get back to a normal work week.   As much as I love the holidays and the days off, it is difficult having them in the middle of the week and it really throws your schedule off.

I am venturing out with some new reads and some new authors this year.   I am going to get out of my comfort zone and explore new genres and new to me authors.   It is going to be exciting and hopefully I can extend my Goodreads goal and meet those again this year.

I have a goal of reading 60 books for 2014 and maybe can devote more time to reading this year and Bible Study too.  I also hope to devote more time to this blog and extend it from every now and then to a weekly blog.   Keep your fingers and toes crossed that I can keep it up.

2013 brought some unique challenges for me at work and I came out with flying colors.   It was an anxious time, but God showed up and with His help I made it through everything.  I am really excited about 2014!!!   I am involved with a new church and just super excited to see what God has in store for me!

So let the 2014 reading begin and look for more posts!!!!  I will be reviewing more books and also hopefully I can try and get another guest blogger on here too!
